Frequently Asked Questions:

1. How can I contact you? Click on the "Contact Us" at the top of the page and send us an email, or call us direct at 1-800-684-2452.

2. What is Kapok? Kapok is cotton like fiber that comes from the pods of the Kapok tree's that grows abundantly throughout Thailand. The trees are not harvested, only the pods. It is 100% organic and is hypoallergenic. Throughout the world Kapok has long been considered a premium fill for custom pillory. All of our pillows and mat's are filled with only 100% new Kapok. Not recycled Kapok. Some pillow makers use rice stalks as filler in some of their triangle pillows. This will break down over time as it begins to decompose. I will not allow this in our pillows. It cost us more money but it is worth it. So you can feel comfortable, we use only 100% Kapok.

3. What is Water Hyacinth? Water Hyacinth is a plant that grows in the rivers, lakes and streams throughout Thailand. Also know as Water Lettuce. Water Hyacinth grows across the top of the water and can literally take over a pond or lake. It will choke off the oxygen to Fish and other living organisms. It can kill a lake it grows so fast. After it is harvested, it is either consumed as a food source, but mostly it is use for baskets, women's handbags, and wicker furniture ext. The stems are dried and then it is woven by hand into the basket or handbag, just a few of the many products it is used for. It is very strong and durable, and can last a very long time if cared for. Below is a short video on how some of the Water Hyacinth products are made in the villages of Thailand.

4. What are your Reed Mats made of? Reed Mats are made from a Reed plant that grows on the banks of lakes, ponds and rivers in Thailand. The Reed plant is harvested trimmed and laid out in the sun to dry. After it is dried it is either died or left to its natural color which is about the same color as wheat. The reed is then woven on a handmade loom. The same way that it's been done for centuries, since the time of ancient Siam. It is woven in a technique called mudmee. This means that the design of the mat appears when the mat is woven together. It's very time consuming. The mat is woven in sections. It takes approximately one day per section. We have 2, 3 and 4 fold mats. So a 4 fold takes the crafts person about four days to complete. Then a colorful cotton material is sewn onto the edges of the mat. And a carrying strap is attached. Because of the way the mats are made it's hard to find any two exactly alike. They are truly one of a kind, put together with pride and knowledge of the old ways of Siam. The people in the villages of Thailand use these to eat on. When visiting other homes in the village as soon as you arrive the reed mats come out and everyone sits on the ground, visits and eats.

5. How do I take care of My Thai Silk? Dry cleaning is the best way to keep Thai silk in good condition and maintain its original beauty, luster, and texture. You can also hand wash it in lukewarm water using the mildest soap. Add a table spoonful of clear white vinegar added to the final rinse.

Never wring your Thai silk! Dry it in the shade, preferably where there's a mild breeze, and be sure it's well supported.

Iron Thai silk on the inside of the garment while it is still slightly damp. If already dry, apply a damp cloth on the outside and iron through the cloth. Properly cared for Thai silk can easily last a century and be passed on to your children and grandchildren.
